A Galliano man convicted in November 2006 of armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was sentenced to 99 years in prison last week.

Gavin Galjour, 33, was sentenced by District Judge Jerome J. Barbera III as a habitual offender, and will serve his term without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

“This man is an extremely dangerous individual,” said Assistant District Attorney Mark Chiasson, who prosecuted Caljour on both the habitual offender charge and the November trial. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Lafourche Parish will be a safer place with him behind bars for the rest of his life.”

Galjour had been convicted of felonies on three prior occasions, Chiasson said at the Galliano man’s habitual offender hearing. He was convicted in Jefferson Parish of attempted possession of a firearms by a convicted felon, and had two additional felony convictions in Lafourche for illegal possession of stolen things and second-degree battery, the district attorney’s office said.

Galjour was serving time for an armed robbery that occurred at a FEMA trailer in Galliano on Feb. 16, 2006. While visiting a resident in the FEMA trailer, Galjour, who was already present, pulled a semi-automatic pistol in the victim and demanded his wallet and money.

In November 2006, District Judge John E. LeBlanc found Galjour guilty of both charges after a two-day bench trial.
