A Gibson woman died Thursday after the pickup truck she was driving went off La. Highway 182 and overturned in Bayou Black, state police said.

Charlotte Wriborg, 51, was traveling west near the Jarvis Bridge in the Gibson area when her 1998 Ford truck careened into the eastbound lane, authorities said. The accident happened at approximately 1:30 a.m., according to state police.

Troopers said Wriborg swerved to the right, overcorrected and caused the truck to rotate clockwise and leave the highway and plunge into Bayou Black. As the truck entered the bayou, it rolled onto its top and came to rest upside down totally submerged, authorities said.

Two passersby stopped and pulled Wriborg from the truck and administered CPR to no avail, state police reported. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

State police said alcohol or drug use is not suspected; however, blood toxicology is pending.

Authorities said Wriborg was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
