Officer Bobby Wescovich and Fire Chief Devon Dedon.

The Golden Meadow Police Department awarded Officer Bobby Wescovich and Fire Chief Devon Dedon with Lifesaving Awards after a recent heroic rescue.

An adult and child were traveling southbound on LA 308 along Bayou Lafourche when they lost control of the vehicle, resulting in it flipping upside down into the water. Officer Wecovich and Chief Dedon responded, but received incorrect information and arrived at LA 1– on the complete opposite side of Bayou Lafourche.

“The Golden Meadow Bridge is currently broken, so the fastest way for those men to save the victims was to get into the bayou and actually swim to them,” explained Golden Meadow Chief of Police Troy Dufrene. “So they swam across the bayou and were able to rescue the adult and the child who were trapped in the car.”

The two humble men said they “did not deserve an award” for doing their job, and described it as a team effort where they were doing their part.

“We all feel an enormous sense of pride to see how these men and women don’t think twice to save a life, even at the risk of their own,” said Chief Dufrene. “Officer Wescovich and Chief Dedon really represent what our community is all about.”
