September 3, 2009Gov. Bobby Jindal awarded over 180 Lafourche Parish veterans the Louisiana Veterans’ Honor Medal at the Warren J. Harang Jr. Municipal Auditorium in Thibodaux last Monday.
Among those honored were seven current and two retired members of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office – Dep. John Bogle, Capt. Roy Gros, Dep. Mike Jimenez, Dep. Chuck Lacomb, Maj. Terry Lyle, Dep. Edell Price, CFO Gary Price, Wilber Lewis and Charlie Ordoyne.
Gov. Jindal signed legislation creating the medal program in 2008. The state’s Department of Veterans Affairs manages the program
The Veterans’ Honor Medal is gold-plated and comes with a blue ribbon.
Veterans who sustained battle injuries received an honor medal designated by a silver star and purple ribbon. Families of veterans killed in action received an honor medal designated by a gold star and a gold ribbon.
Gov. Jindal told stories of medal recipients to highlight the heroic acts of Louisiana veterans while awarding the medals.
“These veterans answered the call of duty and fought to defend liberty, freedom and our way of life,” Jindal said. “The honor medals represent our deep appreciation and respect for our veterans and their willingness to stand in harm’s way to protect us.”
