September 29, 2011Members of the Terrebonne Parish Council are expected to hear tonight from representatives with Woodmont Co. about plans to construct a Kohl’s department store as an anchor for the new Houma Crossing shopping center on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Several months in the making, Kohl’s officials signed a plan this week to open a 45,000-square-foot store in Houma. No construction details were available by press time.
Sources close to this business deal confirmed that retailers Kirkland’s and Ulta would sign location contracts next week to be part of the same shopping center as Kohl’s. Other national and local retailers are expected to be part of the complex. It is unknown at this time how many jobs this might create for the local retail business sector.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the second floor council meeting room at the Government Building in Houma.
First opened as a single store in Brookfield, Wis. 49 years ago, the retail corporation now boasts 1,067 stores in 49 states. Kohl’s is an S&P Fortune 500 company and was ranked 415th on the Forbes Global 2000 in 2010. Sales topped $17 billion in 2009.
