Lafourche Parish Government will hold a free public seminar on building code this afternoon, April 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mathews Government Complex.

State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning, Louisiana Department of Insurance Commissioner James J. Donelon, LPG Director of Planning and Permitting Frank Morris and a representative from the Louisiana Department of Transportation Floodplain Management Office are scheduled to speak at the seminar.

”This event will mark the launch of a public awareness campaign aimed at stressing the importance of obtaining permits for construction projects, large or small,” Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph said.

Since Morris joined the parish government last year, upset parish residents, specifically those trying to secure permits for campgrounds, have complained to the parish council that his code enforcement is too strict and prohibits commerce.

Morris contends that he merely follows state code in all cases.
