May 9, 2018A veteran Houma prosecutor has thrown her hat in the ring for a Louisiana circuit court judgeship, seeking the seat being vacated by another long-time Houma lawyer who has reached the mandatory judicial retirement age of seventy.
Ellen Daigle Doskey announced Tuesday her intention to run for the First Circuit Court of Appeal, which covers the parishes of Lafourche, Terrebonne and St. Mary. Judge John Pettigrew, a formr 32nd Judicial District judge, will be retiring.
Doskey has been an attorney for over 23 years in Terrebonne Parish and currently serves as an assistant district attorney under Joe Waitz Jr. In her current position there, Doskey is the lead research and appellate attorney.
Her private practice includes a hefty amount of work with estate planning, wills and trusts.
“My experience as Assistant District Attorney and in private practice has prepared me to serve on the Court of Appeal,” said Daigle Doskey. “I have experience in both civil and criminal law and have spent countless hours in the courtrooms of the First Circuit. I look forward to putting my experience to work for the people of the First Circuit.”
Born and raised in Houma, she is a Vandebilt Catholic High honors graduate, and alumnus of Loyola University and LSU School of Law.
After law school she clerked at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in Shreveport. When she returned to Houma in 1998 she was the sole appellate attorney in the District Attorney’s office.
Her community involvement includes service on the board of The Haven, funding member of Girls on the Run, and served on the Terrebonne Parish Tree Board.
She and her husband Chuck Doskey have two children, Charles and Anna. Doskey is a member of the Terrebonne Parish Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association and committee member of the Terrebonne Bar Foundation. This is her first run for public office. The election is set for Tuesday, November 6. Early voting runs from Oct. 23 through Oct. 30.
