October 24, 2007L.J. Folse, founding director of Coastal Commerce Bank, is the latest recipient of the Louisiana Banker’s Association Service Award.
Folse has over 50 years of service to the banking industry.
“The banking industry has been very good to me and has given me the opportunity to impact the lives of those in the business and throughout the communities I have been privileged to work in,” he said. “I am very pleased that such a distinguished and well respected organization as the LBA would bestow me with such an honor for merely doing what I love.”
During his tenure in the industry, Folse has helped form four chartered banks: First National in St. Bernard Parish, American Bank in Houma, First National Bankers Bank in Baton Rouge and Coastal Commerce Bank in Houma.
Until his retirement in 1998, Folse served as president and CEO of Terrebonne Bank in Houma for 20 years. He was founding chairman of First National Bankers Bank (FNBB) during that time. FNBB was created as a correspondent bank to serve community banks throughout the state. It now serves more than 800 community banks in five states.
Folse’s most recent undertaking is the creation of Coastal Commerce Bank, which opened in January of 1999. He served as the bank’s founding CEO and still serves on the board as vice chairman.
A past board member of the Louisiana Bankers Association and the past president of the Community Bankers of Louisiana, Folse is also a past board member of the Independent Community Bankers of America.
