John P. Ford of Thibodaux, a l984 Nicholls State University graduate, has been named the university’s director of human resources.

Ford, most recently the director of human resources at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, joined the university staff Nov. 27, said Lionel O. Naquin Jr., vice president for finance and administration.

“We are very excited to have John Ford join us,” Naquin said. “John brings a wealth of experience in all aspects of human resources, including many years serving as a director for major organizations in our area.”

Naquin said in addition to Ford’s technical expertise, “John is a very personable individual who will bring caring and concern for our diverse employee population here at Nicholls.”

Ford offers 22 years of human resources experience, including 16 years in various managerial positions. For the past eight years, he has served as director of human resources for large employers in the area.

Ford has served as director of human resources at Terrebonne Medical Center since April 2003. Prior to that, he served in similar capacities at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center and Bollinger Shipyards Inc. in Lockport.

He spent 14 years at McDermott Inc. in Morgan City, beginning as a personnel representative in 1984. His last six years there, he was manager of human resources.

Ford has received two professional certifications, Senior Professional of Human Resources and Certified Health Care Safety Professional.

He graduated from Nicholls in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in personnel administration.

Ford has been active in Nicholls affairs, including serving as president of the Nicholls Alumni Federation from 1997 to 1998 and on the federation’s board of directors in from 1994 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2002. He also served as vice chair for the Thibodaux area in the university’s capital campaign in 2002.

A member of the Thibodaux Lions Club since 1984, Ford served as the club’s president from 2001 to 2002 and as president of the Bayou Society for Human Resource Managers in 1999.

He chaired the Bayou Vision Education Committee and the Bayou Regional School To Work Council in 1997. He served twice on the United Way Campaign Cabinet, first as Lafourche chair from 1999 to 2001 and as Terrebonne retail chair from 2005 to 2006.

Ford is married to the former Allison Pierce, a 1988 Nicholls graduate, and they have three sons.
