January 17, 2007James P. Ledet, of Thibodaux, has been named president of the Board of Governors of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Louisiana.
The T. Baker Smith employee has actively participated on the board in various positions for 10 years.
Ledet is a past president of the Bayou Chapter of the Louisiana Engineering Society. His innovative hydraulic modeling using UNET on the 1-1B Forced Drainage Project in Terrebonne Parish earned him the James M. Todd Technological Accomplishment Medal from LES in 1995.
Ledet first joined the Houma-based T. Baker Smith, Inc., staff while still attending Nicholls State University. In 1982, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering at Louisiana State University. By then, he was working for PECC in Baton Rouge.
After completing his degree, Ledet returned to the Bayou Region and rejoined the TBS staff. In 1992, he was appointed Public Works director in Lafourche Parish, becoming the first engineer ever to serve in that capacity.
Two years later, he once again rejoined the TBS staff and, in 2002, was promoted to manager of the company’s Thibodaux office.
Ledet is married to the former Louise Richard. The couple has one son, Matthew, a Nicholls State University student majoring in geomatics. He also works part-time in TBS’ Thibodaux office.
