August 26, 2010Louisiana’s state-licensed casinos bounced back with a strong July, taking in almost as much from players as in July 2009.
State police report the 13 riverboat casinos, Harrah’s land casino in New Orleans and the four race track casinos won $219.4 million last month. That’s down only slightly from the $220.3 million gamblers lost in July 2009.
In recent months, the year-to-year comparison in gambling revenue has been lagging. In June, the take was down 4.5 percent from June 2009.
July is typically a strong month for casinos, taking in a major holiday weekend.
Last month, the riverboats won $152 million, Harrah’s won $31.8 million and the track casinos won $35.6 million.
