June 13, 2007Four St. Mary students received M C Bank’s 2007 “Hometown Spirit Scholarships.”
Cory M. Mayon, a Berwick High graduate; Zemone R. Pratt, of Central Catholic High; Lauren Crappell, of Morgan City High; and Brandon T. Harden, a graduate of Patterson High, were presented a check by M C Bank & Trust Company President and CEO Larry J. Callais.
Mayon is the son of Dwain and Denise Mayon; Pratt, the son of Charles and Cassandra Pratt; Crappell, daughter of Paul and Tiffany Crappell; and Harden is the son of the Rev. Marty and Dana Harden.
The “Hometown Spirit” scholarship is given to four area high school students annually. The intent of the honor is to recognize students who have been active both in their school and communities, according to Frances G. Dupre, of M C Bank’s Human Resources Department.
Judging is done anonymously, and focuses on three major areas: An essay entitled “What Makes My Hometown Special”; community service work performed by the student; and academic records.
“Since M C Bank has concentrated a great deal of their efforts in the area of rekindling “Hometown Spirit,” the major emphasis in arriving at a winner is the appreciation that student has for his or her hometown. That coupled with the sincere interest that M C Bank has in the leaders of tomorrow, has lead to this annual scholarship award,” Dupre wrote in a news release.
