Nominations are being sought for residents’ favorite non-profit organization in Terrebonne Parish. The top causes or charities in an eight-parish region will share part of a $100,000 fund donation.

The program is part of a new charitable initiative called Burger King Campaign for Your Cause, according to a new release.

The program, created and funded by local Burger King restaurants, is open to residents in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Tangipahoa, St. Charles and Terrebonne parishes.

Residents may vote online at www.CampaignForYourCause.com.

Entries may include a charity, school, church or other nonprofit concern. Votes will be tallied May 15.

The top 10 vote-getting groups will then enter the second phase of the campaign. Voters can select daily from the finalists online or via text messaging between June 5 and July 13. The nonprofit organizations can campaign on their behalf to generate more votes.

Winners will be announced in August.

The top vote-getting organization will receive $50,000. Second place winners will receive $25,000; third place, $11,000; and fourth through 10th place winners will get $2,000 each.

“With so many worthy nonprofit organizations, it was impossible to choose which ones would receive our donation. Burger King stands for ‘Have it your Way’ so that brand positioning carries through everything we do. The New Orleans area can decide which issues, charities or social causes are most meaningful to them plus every nonprofit/charitable organization has a chance, no matter its size,” said Annelise Gossett, New Orleans Area director for Strategic Restaurants, a Burger King franchise.
