March 5, 2008South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association is offering scholarships for the 2008-09 fall and spring semesters at Nicholls State University or L.E. Fletcher Community College.
The four scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, are available to high school seniors to help with school expenses such as tuition cost, room and board, books or other supplies. Each recipient will receive $500 per semester in the fall and spring, according to SLECA General Manager Mike Guidry.
Any high school senior whose home is served by SLECA or who has a parent who is a manager or owner of a company that is a SLECA customer is eligible to apply. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and academic performance.
Applications are available from high school guidance counselors or by calling SLECA at (985) 876-6880 in Houma or (985) 631-3605 in Amelia.
The deadline to apply is March 31.
“SLECA is proud to offer our young people these scholarships,” Guidry said, “because these scholarships are an investment in our local students by making quality education more easily accessible and affordable.”
