April 16, 2009Only a few Tri-parish area post offices are staying open today slightly longer than their regular operating hours for last-minute income tax filers.
The Morgan City Post Office on 511 First St. is extending its hours to 4:15 p.m. and the office on 1112 Brashear Ave. will be open to 4:45 p.m. The Houma Post Office (425 Lafayette St.) will be open until 5:15 p.m.
The post offices in Thibodaux (910 Canal Blvd.), Gray (4442 W. Main St.), Mathews (4884 La. Highway 1, Suite 4), and Berwick (101 Gilmore Drive) are maintaining regular hours today.
Business has fluctuated this year for area income tax preparation services.
The Ruth B Whitman Income Tax Center in Cut Off said it has had a backlog of returns since January and a representative of Hatch’s Income Tax Service in Morgan City called this tax season typical. Work has been piled up waiting to get out by today.
But a representative of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in Houma said business has been slower this month when it would normally pick up.
