November 10, 2011Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre accepted the donation of a rescue unit Thursday courtesy of the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department, who no longer needed the unit after purchasing a new one this summer.
LPSO spokesman Brennan Matherne said the office will outfit the rescue unit as a crime scene unit, primarily to be used around Thibodaux, but it will also be made available to the whole parish.
“The idea is that we will certainly get more use out of this unit on a parish-wide basis,” Webre said. “The unit will, however, be made available to the Thibodaux Police Department and throughout the parish, whenever it is needed.”
The sheriff also thanked the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department for its donation. Thibodaux Fire Chief Mike Naquin said it was simply a case of common sense for the betterment of the parish.
“We felt it was better to find a local use for this unit,” Naquin said. “With the partnership that exists between the Sheriff’s Office and the Thibodaux Police Department, this unit will be put to good use not only in the city, but around the parish as well.”
