A day in a soldier’s life
February 25, 2010An argument led to a shooting Saturday morning in the Alidore community in Raceland.
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kirk Chester, 28, of 526 Triple Oaks, was shot in his left knee following an argument with his friend, Sean Hester Sr., 43, of 163 Triple Oaks.
Authorities said Hester admitted shooting Chester, but said he did so after Chester attacked him in his home. The two men allegedly had a few beers together after work that morning before Chester accused Hester of stealing money from him.
A sheriff’s office report says the two men took their argument into Hester’s house where Chester was shot as a last resort.
Hester told deputies that after being shot, Chester threw a pill bottle of suspected crack cocaine by a fence outside the home.
Chester was taken to Ochsner St. Anne Hospital and has been transferred to Chabert Medical Center for surgery. Upon his release, he will be taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he will be booked on outstanding warrants for simple criminal damage to property and home invasion and simple battery.
For his role in Saturday’s incident, Chester will also now be charged with battery, possession of crack cocaine and remaining after forbidden.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sgt. Leslie Peters said the bullet went through Chester’s leg, but his injuries are not considered life threatening.
Peters said detectives have forwarded their police report to the District Attorney’s Office, who will review the case and determine if Hester should face any charges in the shooting.
Peters said no charges were placed against Hester originally, because they believed he acted in self-defense.
“We were about to talk to Mr. Hester and his son, who was a witness and our officers were satisfied,” she said. “They determined it was self-defense, but the DA will ultimately make the final decision.”
