Students in grades 9-12 wishing to learn more about Louisiana’s marine environments are just a boat ride away.

Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is inviting students to learn about Louisiana’s marsh, fish and water quality in their LEAD camp this summer.

The five-day camp will take place at the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocadrie.

The application deadline is June 1, and two sessions are offered – June 20-24 and July 25-29.

Costing $180 per student, the camp includes meals and lodging.

“We’re hoping it will give kids the awareness of the Louisiana coast, the threats to our coast, why it needs to be saved,” said LUMCON Education Assistant Jennifer Robinson. “We hope they will get a better understanding of the environment that they live around.”

Call (985) 851-2843 to register.
