November 2, 2006Parish President Don Schwab reported to parish council members on current construction along Main Street and East Park Avenue, asking residents of Terrebonne Parish to be patient with downtown roadwork.
A section of La. 24 on St. Charles Street near Terrebonne High School to the Orleans Boulevard Bridge is under construction. The work is part of a state department project.
Schwab said the parish government received little warning about the construction under way, and said hopes that with good weather the project will be completed as quickly as possible. He said that although he did not know of a completion date, crews looked to be making swift progress.
Project Manager Alan Weber said he hoped to construction would end by the end of the year, but all depending on the weather, did not have an official date.
“The road had some major rutting which was a problem for drainage and smoothness of the driving surface,” said Weber.
“People have been waiting on (this construction) for a while,” said Council Chair Peter Rhodes, in response to Schwab’s address and the much needed improvements along La. 24.
