A 45-year-old Houma man died of injuries he sustained Monday evening while attempting to pass another vehicle on La. Hwy. 182 in a “no passing zone,” state police said.

Authorities said Michael Riley was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson when he tried to go around a 1979 Chevrolet box truck. When the truck turned left into the Greenwood Middle School parking lot, the motorcycle collided into the vehicle.

Riley, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike, state police said. He was rushed to Terrebonne General Medical Center, where he later died.

The driver of the truck, 71-year-old Willard Kraemer, was not injured.

Authorities said alcohol use is not a suspected cause of the crash.
