September 23, 2024Nicholls State University is set to host a Cooking for a Cause fundraiser on Tuesday, September 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Galliano Dining Hall to benefit Nicholls’ Swipe Out Hunger program.
Nicholl’s executive chef will be going head-to-head with the executive chef from Loyola University to craft a dish using at least three ingredients from a list of food pantry items, demonstrating the resourcefulness needed when access to fresh food is limited. Cost to attend the event is $11.25 plus tax for those not on a meal plan or just one meal swipe for those with meal plans. Sodexo will donate a meal to the Nicholls Swipe Out Hunger program for each meal swipe generated during the event.
In honor of Food Insecurity Month this September, Sodexo Universities launched its first annual Cooking for a Cause event across campuses in Louisiana and Mississippi. The month-long initiative focuses on addressing food insecurity among students, showcasing the talents of Sodexo’s chefs in a competitive cookoff while raising awareness and encouraging student involvement.
Each event will feature a unique twist, but the central challenge remains in crafting a dish using at least three ingredients from a list of food pantry items. A portion of the proceeds from each event will be donated back to the hosting university’s Swipe Out Hunger program or campus food pantry. Sodexo will match all donations.
Mom’s Pantry, Nicholls’ food pantry, is a stocked cabinet open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for any student, employee or community members in need of food, located directly across from the Little Colonels Academy entrance. The mission is to mitigate student hunger and address food insecurity on campus. Anyone interested in using Mom’s Pantry does not need to register or show evidence of need.
