December 18, 2006Europe knows her as the hard-core rocker from the Netherlands; her band is one of the countries highest paid acts. Her debut album, Wonderfool, led to five singles, four videos and hundreds of live performances around the continent.
Across the Atlantic people know and love Dilana Robichaux and now her “smoky vocals” are infiltrating the American market after performing on CBS’s Rock Star: Supernova n a reality show dedicated to finding rocker Tommy Lee a musical addition to his band.
Robichaux’s last tour date for 2006 will be at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center this Sunday; the doors open at 7 p.m. Sons of William – a band with roots in Houma – will be headlining the event and taking the stage at 8 p.m.
Although Robichaux is well on her way to stardom in the U.S. after becoming a Rock Star finalist, she will be nourishing her own roots in Houma, visiting family and friends during her stay.
David Ohlmeyer, director of the HTCC, said Robichaux was once married to the son of Leland and Judy Robichaux, Dicky Robichaux, and the family remains close to their ex-daughter in law.
Ohlmeyer said the holidays will bring her back to visit and perform once again for familiar faces.
“There is another reason why she is having this concert,” said Ohlmeyer. Robichaux will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds to a close friend who is terminally ill n a single mother who was diagnosed with cancer.
“The money will help her journey back home (to South Louisiana), where she wants to be when she dies,” he said.
With a past that has taken the rocker all over the world, Robichaux was born in South America and was passionate about music from a very young age. Her performing career started at the young age of seven, after her family moved to the Netherlands. At 16, she decided to forgo her education and become a full-time musician.
After her success in Europe and last year’s TV stint, Robichaux now calls Houston home and has been touring the country for most of 2006. The full Rock Star cast, including the Houma-bound star, will begin a one-month U.S. tour in January.
Nearly 600 tickets have been sold for Sunday’s show and there are still seats available at the $25 and $35 price level. All of the $50 front row, VIP tickets were sold out within the first 10 minutes they were available on Nov. 27.
“This show will be the last on my tour and sure to rock the house, so you don’t want to miss it,” Robichaux said in a recent release.
Fans who would like to see Robichaux but tight for money during the Holiday Season will have the opportunity to enter into a prize drawing to win tickets, while donating to another cause.
Head to the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot on Martin Luther King Drive today and where Rock 106.3 will be giving away a four-pack of tickets to catch the Dec. 17 show.
The station will be on location collecting gifts for the area’s ‘Toys for Tots’ drive. Stop by and donate an unwrapped gift and your name will be entered to win seats to the show. The station will begin their day-long simulcast at 8 a.m.
