May 11, 2007A Mississippi woman was killed and two other people were hurt when the SUV they were traveling in veered to avoid an animal, flipped and crashed Wednesday night on La. 55 near Madison Canal Road, according to state police.
Jennifer Moss, 26, of Forest, Miss., was a passenger in the 1998 Ford Explorer being driven by her fiance’, Warren Pugh, 30, also of Forest.
According to state police, Moss jerked the steering wheel to avoid an animal that darted into the roadway, causing the SUV to veer and eventually roll. Moss was ejected from the vehicle.
Pugh received minor injuries in the accident, state police said. Acadian Ambulance transported him to the Terrebonne General Medical Center for treatment.
The rear passenger, Lloyd Nettleton, 16, of Montegut, also received minor injuries. Acadian Ambulance transported him to Chabert Medical Center.
State police said none of the SUV’s occupants were wearing safety belts at the time of the accident.
Although alcohol use is not suspected, blood test was drawn from Pugh for testing in compliance with state law, state police said. There are no charges pending in the crash, which is still under investigation.
