November 13, 2024Students from Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish high schools recently participated in B.I.G. (Bayou Industrial Group) Buddy in Business Day, a mentorship day hosted in partnership with Bayou Industrial Group member companies.
“The program offers high school students the opportunity to shadow B.I.G. members who can provide career advice and mentorship to students who may not have access to professionals in their chosen careers, and to forge relationships that can potentially lead to retention of students as future professionals in the region,” reads a description of the program from LPSD.
Students were able to explore jobs in a wide range of fields, including safety management, architecture, interior design, engineering, law, marketing, education, business and finance, carpentry, real estate, various medical professions, and more.

“We are grateful for our partnership with the Bayou Industrial Group and the hospitality of their member businesses who welcomed our students and shared their knowledge and experience with them. Job shadowing programs allow students to observe jobs prior to entering college or the workforce to help them make crucial decisions about their career path,” said Tanya Bolton with LPSD. “This hands-on career exploration allows students to learn the “tools of the trade” and hear about the diverse opportunities available to them locally, helping them to make more informed decisions about their future beyond high school.”
Bayou Industrial Group is a non-profit, non-partisan organization committed to the growth and sustainability of business and industry in the Bayou Region of southeast Louisiana. For more information, please visit their Facebook page.
