Law enforcement makes arrest in 15-year-old priest murder case
September 19, 2007The Terrebonne Parish Council renewed parish, city and district property tax millages at the 2006 rates during the council’s regular meeting last Wednesday.
Parish Chief Financial Officer Jamie Elfert, in a memo dated Aug. 10, said “there are no changes recommended from those property tax millages levied in Year 2006.”
Property is assessed by the parish every four years.
The next assessment will be in 2008.
“Property subject to taxation is assessed as a percentage of its fair market value,” Elfert wrote.
Residential properties and all land are assessed at 10 percent of fair market value. Other property and electric cooperative properties, excluding land, are assessed at 15 percent.
Public service properties, excluding land, are assessed at 25 percent.
The following is a partial list of the millage rates for 2007 levied on property taxed by the Terrebonne Parish Council.
Terrebonne Parish
Health Unit – 1.66 mills
Recreation tax – 2.16 mills
Retarded citizens – 5.33 mills
Mental health – .42 mills
Council on Aging – 7.5 mills
City of Houma
Fire Protection District – 5.08 mills
Police Protection District – 5.08 mills
Ad Valorem tax – 6.75 mills
In addition, the council renewed the millage rates on 10 road lighting districts in Terrebonne Parish.
