Terrebonne Parish School District completes major renovations on several schools

The Terrebonne Parish School District recently completed several highly-anticipated renovation projects on local schools, with more improvements planned and currently underway.

 

“Our school district assembled a Facility Task Force in 2019 to evaluate every school, and develop a long term facilities master plan,” explained TPSD Superintendent Bubba Orgeron. “Normally, a plan like that would sit for a long time while we waited for funds and approvals– but when Hurricane Ida hit in 2021, it provided a window for us to follow through on the recommendations while we were going to be completing necessary renovations anyways. We wanted to do it right.”

 

 

Some of the recommendations for multiple school sites included important upgrades such as improved safety, new HVAC systems and upgrades, addressing electrical issues for technology needs, complete replacement of floors, walls, and windows, and more.

 

Through a mixture of funds from the District, the American Rescue Plan Act, FEMA, and insurance claims, TPSD was able to make huge strides on their renovation plans this year, and is proud to unveil the completed upgrades at several schools across the district.

 

Major repairs slated for 2025-2026 include the complete renovation of South Terrebonne High School, Terrebonne High School, and Ellender Memorial High School.

 

 

“Our goal is well-kept, well-maintained, modernized schools that are conducive to learning,” said Orgeron. “Windows, floors, ceilings, lighting, air conditioning, everything plays a role in creating a good learning environment for students. These simple things can go a long way, and it will make a big difference in our communities.”
