New hearings loom, victim’s family remembers
October 22, 2013The Haven hosts a presentation on Tips for Creating Healthy Families from noon to 1 p.m., Oct. 25 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church in Houma.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the presentation will cover practices in healthy families, red flags and ways to respond to and redirect dangerous family habits. The presentation will also feature different activities to engage and create a bond between family members.
“Here at The Haven, we talk a lot about abuse,” said Melissa Williams, training coordinator at The Haven. “We also want to talk about how to establish a healthy family unit. People may not be in an abusive household, but they may not be in a healthy family. We need to increase the number of healthy, happy families.
“How can I make my family healthier? How can I and my children be happier? How can I help my relationship with my spouse and make my family strong? We want people forming positive relationships with those in their family and those outside of their family and produce healthier citizens for the future.”
Those interested may RSVP by calling (985) 872-0757.
