A Theriot man was arrested last Wednesday evening for punching a man, causing him to lose consciousness and drug possession.

Houma police spotted a 27-year-old man lying on his back on a shell driveway in the 100 block of Agnes Street as they patrolled the area. Houma Police spokesman Lt. Todd Duplantis said Acadian Ambulance was called, although the man refused treatment.

The man told officers Chance M. Lovell, 28, of 2523 Bayou Dularge Road, Theriot, had punched and knocked him unconscious during an argument. Lovell was gone when the man came to.

Police found Lovell on South Van Avenue. The Theriot man admitted to hitting the victim.

Officers arrested Lovell for second-degree battery. When they searched Lovell, police found four Somas and two Xanax in his possession. Also, they learned he had two outstanding warrants for making harassing phone calls and failure to appear, Duplantis said.

The pills were seized for evidence.

Lovell was booked at the Terrebonne Parish Jail for possession of legend drug without prescription, possession of Schedule IV CDS, second-degree battery and the two warrants.

Duplantis said if Lovell is found guilty, the maximum penalty for the second-degree battery charge is five years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
