Terrebonne Parish deputies apprehended one of four teens who escaped Friday from the parish’s juvenile detention center, during an extensive search that continued Saturday.

Joe Harris, director of the center, confirmed that Terrell Akeem Williams, 17, who was being held on charges of simple burglary, simple arson and criminal damage to property.

The youths were in a recreation yard at the center, according to initial information from authorities, when one of them grabbed a guard’s radio and threw it, creating a distraction that allowed him and the other three to climb up to an awning, make their way across a roof to another fenced area and leave over a fence, at around 3:15 p.m.

Still at large are Jovante Miller, 15, of 9158 Main St. Houma, 5’1” tall, 125 lbs. He was being held for theft, simple battery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Benyami Williams Walker, 15,101 Zazoo Ct., Gibson, 5’4” 120 lbs., has a charge of simple burglary. Curtis Michael Hogan, 16, 305 B. Jefferson St. Napoleonville, 5’9” 165 lbs. He has charges of second-degree battery and aggravated battery.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said anyone with information on the whereabouts of the remaining escapees contact law enforcement.

They may call the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, (985)876-2500, or Crime Stoppers, 1(800)743-7433, and may become eligible for a cash reward. The Houma Police Department and Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office are also involved with the search, as well as employees from the detention center.

Detention Center Director Joe Harris said anyone seeing juveniles appearing suspicious, especially with tattered or odd clothing, notify police immediately.

“We want actual factual information that we can use to make sure we apprehend them,” said Harris, who expressed thanks to the agencies aiding with the search.

Williams was located by deputies near an abandoned house off of Vicari Drive where all four were initially seen. Deputies focused on following leads in the Oakshire subdivision. They had, authorities said, visited a young acquaintance who allowed them use of a telephone. Determinations have yet been made on whether or what charges might be pressed against that individual.

Parish President Gordon Dove has been kept abreast of the developments.

After his apprehension, authorities said, Williams was taken to Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center for treatment of cuts and bruises.

The teens were wearing center-issued blue shorts and white tee-shirts when the escape was made, but information developed during the search indicated that they had changed their shirts. They may have made other clothing changes since then.
