Houma has added a new carnival parading krewe to the list of nine already passing through the streets of the city.

The Terrebonne Parish Council last Wednesday voted to permit the 400-member Krewe of Titans to parade on the first Sunday of Carnival, following the Krewe of Hyacinthians.

Next year, Titans will roll 22 floats. The krewe has men, women and children members. Krewe spokesman Homer McGee said children will ride in the main body of the parade, but they will have to be accompanied by their parents.

“It’s a family parade,” he said.

Titans needed to roll at the same time as Hyacinthians because Houma’s parade schedule has no more openings for krewes to have their own parading day, McGee said. The parish does not permit parades on weeknights, Monday through Thursday, except for the night before Mardi Gras.

The Krewe of Titans is incorporated with the state under the name Terrebonne Family Carnival Club.

In Greek mythology, the Titans were gods who ruled the world before being supplanted by the Olympian gods led by Zeus.
