The Terrebonne Parish Council has officially voted to consolidate and merge several voting precincts across the parish following a summer survey of voters.

“We are required to canvas our community, and any precinct that falls under 300 registered voters or over 2,200 register voters we have to take action on,” explained Rhonda Rogers with the Terrebonne Parish Registrar of Voters. “Ours were all small, so we ended up with 14 under 300 active voter precincts. After finding out that information, we had to figure out how to merge or consolidate them. This is a result of our summer canvas, but we couldn’t pass it until after this past election cycle.”

The executive summary read as follows:  “As stipulated in Louisiana Revised Statues 18:192, the Registrar of Voters is mandated to conduct an annual canvass of the parish to identify voting precincts with fewer than 300 active voters. The 2023 Annual Canvass for Terrebonne Parish has identified precincts 9, 21, 22, 24, 30, 36, 40, 46, 65, 74, 78, 103, and 115 as precincts with less than 300 voters. Precincts 9, 22, 24, 36, 46, 78, and 103 may be merged with adjacent precincts. Precincts 21, 30, 39, 40, 65, 74, and 115 may be consolidated with neighboring precincts in accordance with Louisiana Revised Statutes 18: 425.1. The Secretary of State has pre-approved the specified mergers and consolidations.”

In congruence with these 14 merged or consolidated precincts, the Terrebonne Parish Council also voting to change two polling locations. The executive summary reads as follows: “Terrebonne Parish has codified its election districts and voting precincts under Chapter 30 of the Terrebonne Parish Municipal Code. The Registrar of Voters has proposed changes to the polling locations for certain precincts to improve convenience and efficiency for voters. The proposed chances include relocating the polling locations for Precinct 55 from the Bourg Community Center to Village East School, and for Precinct 33 from Coteau Bayou Blue School to Oakshire Gym.

All voters in the effected precincts will receive updated voter cards shortly. For more information, please contact the Terrebonne Parish Registrar of Voters.
