The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government has announced plans for a new power plant, following recent widespread issues with power outages across Houma.

The new power plant will be located in the same location at 1551 Barrow Street in Houma, and is estimated to be completed within the next 3-5 years. As of now, the construction is currently in the design phase.

TPCG’s electric service is currently provided to approximately 14,000 residential and commercial customers within the corporate limits of Houma and immediate urban areas, and has recently been plagued with frequent outages for a number of reasons.

“Our mission will be to continue to distribute electric supply to our customers safely, efficiently and reliably,” said Ernest Brown, Utilities Director for TPCG. “We are excited to get started with a new power plant so that we can minimize the total supply cost and manage the availability of electric supply to all TPCG customers.”
