November 4, 2024Tropical Depression 18 has now officially been named Tropical Storm Rafael, and is forecast to become a hurricane tomorrow.
The 3:00 PM advisory on newly-named Tropical Storm Rafael shows the storm moving towards the north-central Gulf Saturday. There is still a lot of uncertainty, mainly after midweek, and the track and intensity will be highly dictated by the strength and speed of Rafael as it moves into the Gulf.
“It is too soon to say exactly what impacts this system could have on the local area as any potential impacts are still at least four to five days out, and Rafael is expected to encounter a very unfavorable environment later this week and into the weekend,” reads a statement from the National Weather Service New Orleans. “Rafael should continue to be monitored.”
