April 14, 2011Members of the U.S. House of Representatives Natural Resources Committee will conduct an oversight field hearing at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center on Monday at 9 a.m. Coastal recovery and restoration are on the agenda for this public session.
Field hearings are conducted so the business and political leaders as well as the general public have an opportunity to tell congressmen from both inside and outside their districts what concerns they have. At this meeting participants will be given an opportunity to address the BP oil spill of last year and deepwater drilling issues.
According to a congressional forward, environmental impact, jobs and technology for the gas and oil industry will also be addressed.
Committee members from Louisiana include Reps. Jeff Landry (R-New Iberia), John Fleming (R-Minden). Rep. Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) is not on the committee but said he plans to be in attendance as well.
Unnamed witnesses are expected to speak on the BP disaster, restitution efforts, coastal damages, economic impact, and responses to technology.
