April 9, 2014Dr. Charles Robert “Bob” Hand, 74, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Grand Isle, La., died Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
Dr. Hand was a beloved husband, skilled surgeon, gifted musician, avid hunter and angler, decorated war veteran, father and grandfather. He attended Ole Miss and played trumpet for the “Pride of the South” marching band during his freshman year and went on to play in various jazz bands. He attended Tulane Medical School and pursued a residency in orthopedics at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. He spent most of his career in private practice in Monroe, La., before moving to his fishing paradise of Grand Isle. He practiced at the Jackson V.A. Hospital until retirement in 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jackie Hand; sons, David (Jennifer) and John (Shawndell) Hand brother, William (Evie) Hand; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, at First Methodist Church of Philadelphia, Miss. A memorial service will be held in Grand Isle at a later date. (Samart-Mothe)
