Clarence O. Brown Jr., 82, a native of New Orleans, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Monday, July 28.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Wesley Brown; three sons, Ronald and wife Joan, Clarence Brown III and wife Michele, and Julian Brown; two daughters, Denise Brown Johnson and husband Michael, and Faye James Gardner; one sister, Claudia E. Brown; five sisters-in-law, Anna Palm of New Orleans, Dorothy Washington Verret of Los Angeles, Leona Phillips and Leontine Harris, both of Houma, and Joyce Thompson and husband Frank of Slidell, La.; seven grandchildren; and one godchild, Savah Holmes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence O. Brown Sr. and Mabel Lewis Brown; one son, Cedric Vanocour Brown; one sister, Olive Brown Cooper; and his grandparents, Jimmy Lewis and Amelia Boykin Lewis and Oliver Brown and Gertrude Levron Brown.
He was a U.S. veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Oasis Pleasure Club, Prince Hall Masons and Blaine C. Clay Lodge No. 14 F & AM in Houma. He served as junior warden and senior warden of Blaine C. Clay Lodge No. 14 F & AM. He was appointed by M.W.P.H.G.L. of La. by Grand Master Ralph Slaughter as honorary past master. He had more than 50 years in Blain C. Clay No. 14. He was also a member of Samuel Wright Chapter No. 40 RAM of Houma and served as most excellent high priest of Samuel Wright No. 40. He was a 32nd degree Mason and served as commander in chief in John Parson No. 170 32 & 33 degree Mason in Morgan City, La. He was a charter member of Lawrence Kitchen No. 18 Knight Templar of Houma and a member of Platta Temple No. 15 in New Orleans and Houma Shriners Club where he was past president. He was a retired schoolteacher with Terrebonne Parish School Board and funeral director with Community Funeral Home of Houma. He enjoyed cooking and traveling. He was a member of New Rising Sun Baptist Church and was Baptist.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, August 1, at Community Funeral Home and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at New Rising Sun Baptist Church with a wake service to follow. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 2, at the church, with burial at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
