LUMCON scientists frustrated with dwindling dollars for research

Daniel Colett “Red” Naquin Sr., 84, a native of Donaldsonville, La. and a resident of Napoleonville, La. died Saturday, February 9, 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Templet Naquin of Napoleonville; son, Daniel Naquin Jr. of Pierre Part, La.; daughters, Mary Kay Schmitt and husband, Richard, of Prairieville and Celia Blanchard and husband, Jeffrey, of Donaldsonville; brother, Raymond Naquin of Houma, La.; grandson, Eric Daniel Schmitt, of Denham Springs, La.; brother-in-law, Alvin Torres; sisters-in-law, Rosa Mae Torres and Rosalie Vessier, all of Donaldsonville; and numerous relatives.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Mercedes Torres Naquin; his parents, Villier and Bessie Hebert Naquin; brother, Edmond Naquin; and sisters, Rosa Mae Guedry, Bessie Mae Alonzo, Alice Mae Rome and Marjorie Naquin.
Daniel served as a 4th degree Knights of Columbus, a member of St. Joseph Society, the American Legion and Donaldsonville VFW Post No. 3766. While serving in the U.S. Navy, he worked as a pharmacist’s mate first class in the Naval Mobile Hospital No. 6 in New Zealand. He also worked at the Naval Station. He was a self-employed butcher.
