February 18, 2014Donald Newman Smith, 80, a native of Beauregard, Miss., and resident of Houma, La., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.
Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He graduated from Phoenix College of Mortuary Science and eventually owned a funeral home in Mt. Vernon, Mo. He later served as a peace officer in Phoenix, Ariz., managed Beatrice Foods Dairy in St. Joseph, Mo., and eventually settled in Houma where he was employed by Cavin’s Corporation before retirement. He was a member of the Moila Shrine Temple and a 32nd degree mason. He enjoyed golf and fishing with his sons.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Smith; daughter, Idonna (Jeff) Lawrence; sons, Ronald (Tracy), Bradley and Michael Smith; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Elma Smith; and daughter, Rhonda Smith. (Samart)
