Donald “Big D” Varnes, 53, a native of Gainesville, Fla., and resident of Gheens, La., died Monday, April 7, 2014.
Mr. Varnes was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend with a passion for hunting, fishing and spoiling his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Faith Varnes; sons, Jimmy (Tiffany), Jacob (Varnes) and Jared Varnes; daughter; Cassie (Daniel) Coleman; brother, Albert Varnes; half-sister, Kimberly Bergeron; stepsister, Tonya Scott; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Issac and Virginia Varnes; stepmother and father, Laverne and Jerry Cauldwell; and brothers, Michael Shellman and Alton and Lorenzo Varnes.
Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 10, and 8 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gheens with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery. (Falgout)
