Elsie “Chippy” Chauvin Smith, 91, a native of Little Caillou, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Friday, August 17, 2007 at 5:30 p.m.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph H. Smith; two sons, Stephen J. Smith and his wife Maria, and Gregg A. Smith and his wife, Donna Lynn; one daughter, Holly Smith Galjour and her husband Thomas; two grandchildren, Heather Ann Martin and Hannah Ann Martin; and one great-grandchild, Pyper Ann Martin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Chauvin and Virginia Bergeron Chauvin; eight brothers, Camille, Edward, Arthur, Gilmore, Filmore, Charles, Mack and Morgan Chauvin; five sisters, Cloe C. Bergeron, Pearl C. Boquet, Stella C. Pellegrin, Leona C. Roberts and Mary Chauvin.

Elsie was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. She was a homemaker and attended nursing school for two years at Charity in New Orleans, La. She was in the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post No. 3700, No. 2240916, Catholic Daughters of America. She was in the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps (WACC) during World War II.

She is buried in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.
