Gillis “Chic” Bourgeois, 89, a native and resident of Raceland, La., died Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7:05 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Delta Eva Lecompte Bourgeois; one son, Clyde P. “Chic” Bourgeois; two daughters, Marlene B. Gaudet and Priscilla B. Chipman; one sister, Neddie Blanchard; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Agnes Foret Bourgeois; one son, Donald L. Bourgeois; two brothers, Cullen Bourgeois and Huey Bourgeois; two sisters, Leafy Schifani and Camellia LaCour; and one grandchild, Paul Bourgeois.
He was a longtime member of Woodmen of the World. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a retired employee of Avondale Shipyard.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at St. Mary church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Samart-Mothe Funeral Home in Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
