Gladys “Dolores” Erwin Whatley, 82, a native of Detroit, Mich., and resident of Houma, La., died at 10:55 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2012.

Mrs. Whatley will be remembered as a devout Christian, loyal friend, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and the epitome of an American homemaker. As a member of First Baptist Church of Houma for 51 years, she served as Sunday school teacher, membership greeter, choir member, and ukulele band member.

She is survived by her son, Larry Whatley; daughters, Darlene (Peter) King, Donna Usie and Prissy (David) Wilson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman Whatley; father, Donald Irwin; mother, Gladys (Russell) Barnes; and grandson, Clint Usie.

Interment was at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. (Falgout)
