Helen Cooper Burdis, 87, a native and resident of Labadieville, La., died Sunday, July 20.
She is survived by four daughters, Frances Davis and husband Edison, Gloria B. Jaquot, Diane Fair, and Elaine Burdis; one son, Rhula “Lil Ree” Burdis Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Gertrude and Florence Burdis; one son-in-law, Wilbert Lewis Sr.; 34 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rhula Burdis Sr,; her parents, Walter Sr. and Eliska Scramble Cooper; three daughters, Eliska Lewis, Helen Watkins and Rosa B. Watts; three sons, Walter Burdis, Rhula “Son-nee” Burdis, and Andrew Burdis; and one brother, Walter “Bro-Lee” Cooper Jr.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Williams & Southall Funeral Home in Napoleonville, La., and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the New Belmont Baptist Church in Labadieville with religious services to follow. She will be buried at the church cemetery.
