Iris Vergin, 49, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma, La., died Monday, January 28, 2008, at 4:43 a.m.

She is survived by her companion, Harold Jones of Houma; her mother, Betty Mitchell of Gibson, La.; stepfather, Winston Johnson; sons, Edward Vergin and Henry Vergin, both of Houma; daughters, Shantell Mitchell and Ashia Vergin, both of Houma; brothers, Cornelius Mitchell Jr., Rudolph Mitchell and Terry Mitchell, all of Houma; sisters, Mary Mitchell, Janice Mitchell and Iona Mitchell, all of Houma; and 18 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cornelius Mitchell Sr.; and her grandparents, Louise Wilson, Henry Smith and Viola Scott.

Iris was a homemaker and a member of Pleasantview Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Pleasantview Baptist Church with religious services to follow at the church. She will be buried Halfway Cemetery.

Gertrude Geddes Willis-Terrebonne Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
