Corps of Engineers wins flood fight during Gustav

James “J.W.” Tyler, 83, a native of Lillie, La., and a resident of Larose, La., died Sunday, September 14, at 10:48 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Villeret Tyler; sons, Eddie Tyler and wife Evelyn and Calvin Tyler and wife Cyndi; sister, Cleo Banquer; daughter-in-law, Doris Tyler; grandchildren, Shane Tyler, William Tyler, E.J. Tyler and Wendy T. Hensley; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Audrey Grigsby Tyler; and son, Jimmy Tyler.
He was retired from Chevron.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano, La., with a religious service to follow. He will be buried at Cheramie Cemetery in Galliano.
