September 12, 2011John Joseph Tabor, 80, a native of Choctaw, La., and resident of Chackbay, La., died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011.
Mr. Tabor was a veteran of the Korean War, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association, a member of VFW Post 5097 and the American Legion. He was a member of the Lafourche Parish Democratic ESEC Committee, the Lafourche Parish School Board from 1964-1970 and served as Commissioner of Lafourche Basin Levee District from 1985-1987. He was also a lifetime member of Plumbers and Steamfitters of Local 60.
He is survived by his son, Glenn (Linda) Tabor; daughter, Martha Cortez; sisters, Florence Landry, Thelma and Eunice Percle and Terry Becnel; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vergie Tabor; son, Elphege Tabor II; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elphege Tabor; and brother, Jessie Tabor.
Burial was at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church Cemetery in Chackbay. (Thibodaux)
