Joseph “Emile” Matherne, 79, a native of Vacherie, La., and a resident of St. Bernard, La., died Sunday, February 1, at 4:15 a.m.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth R. Matherne; daughters, Shirley B. Matherne and Sharon M. Breaux; brothers, Arthur Matherne Jr. and Armand Matherne; sisters, Vernie Mae Torres and Wilmer Anne Louque; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur J. Matherne Sr. and Ethy Granier Matherne; daughter, Shelia B. Burgess; and brother, Eldon A. Matherne.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Ed Brauner American Legion Post 307 and past Commander and Conductor of 40/8 Voiture #108.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland, La. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie, La.
