Lenten Gumbo served for 20 years, still going strong
March 19, 2010Mabel Ayo Bergeron, 87, a native of Gheens and lifelong resident of Houma, died at 6:44 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
Mrs. Bergeron was residing in Lafayette with family at the time of her death.
She is survived by son, Rene (Peggy) Bergeron; daughters, Jane Daigle of Metairie, Sandra Kimble of Houma, Barbara (Jack) Bonner of Katy, Texas, and Debra (Brad) Duplantis of Lafayette; sister, Vesta Ayo Ford of Leesburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Joseph Bergeron; parents, Albert Sr. (Camillia) Ayo; one great-grandchild, Ashley Kimble; brothers, Murphy and Albert Ayo Jr.; and sisters, Enola Barrios, Pearl Boudreaux, Marie Savoie and Linda Ayo.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Houma. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.
She will be buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2 in Houma.
