Raising homes reaches above the threat
April 26, 2011Marguerite Clare Geist Roper, 92, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Houma, La., died Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
Mrs. Roper was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She was a Secretary for the Lafourche-Terrebonne Soil and Water Consolidated District for 27 years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Terrebonne Chapter of AARP, The Regional Military Museum, a charter member of the National World War II Museum and a founding member and charter member of the Ladies Carnival Club. She was also a former member of the Krewe of Flames and the Stinker’s Club of Houma. She was a world traveler.
She is survived by her sons, John Jr. (Belinda) and Michael (Jami) Roper; daughter, Sally (Ron) Portier; seven grandchildren, Timothy (Ashley), Michelle and Marianne Portier, Melissa (Arthur) Newbould, and Robert (Darla), Cali and Michael Roper; seven great-grandchildren, Adrienne, Jacob and Destiney Portier, David King, Mason and Blake Newbould and Brynn Roper; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Rosemary (Charles) Porche; and brothers, Oswald (Catherine), Lloyd (Marilyn) and Adolphe (Philetta) Geist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Emmett Roper; parents, Karl and Lucille Troendle Geist; grandparents, Adolphe and Georgina Spor Troendle, and Franz and Mathilda Benz Geist.
