Mary D. “Pete” Pitts, 90, a native of Prospect, Tenn., and resident of Morgan City, La., died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012.

Mrs. Pitts was well known for her outstanding needlework and many of her pieces received recognition.

Mrs. Pitts was a graduate of Martin College, now Martin Methodist College, in Pulaski, Tenn. She and her husband were long-time operators of both a farm and Pittsbend Sand & Gravel in Fayetteville, Tenn. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Fayetteville and a number of civic and social organizations. Pete was well known for her outstanding needlework and had pieces on exhibition at the 1982 World’s Fair.

She is survived by her son, Guy (Denise) Pitts; sisters, Ann Stevenson and Sue Clark; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ephe Pitts; parents, Guy and Olivia Daly; daughter, Mary Evans; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Twin City Funeral Home and Friday, Feb. 24, at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville with services to follow. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fayetteville. (Twin City)
